In this powerful article, the author poetically awakens the reader to the reality that all of life is about a dance between us and our Creator. He reveals insights into why the pains and difficulties of life play an important strategic purpose in this romantic tango for two. It is a call to look past the distractions, offenses, and false accusations life brings our way so that we can flow with the purposes and dealings of God in our life. It is an invitation to awaken the dance within us that's yearning to break us free. God invites each of us into a tango with Him and this is the fundamental purpose of life. All the dynamics and pressures of life create a context or stage upon which our divine dance is set. This article helps you see the bigger picture of life and to see past the offenses and false accusations so that you say seize the opportunities God makes available to us on a daily basis.

As unintuitive as it may sound, God loves waste. We’re not talking about just any kind of waste here. God loves it when people offer him wastefully extravagant acts of love and devotion. After all, God started the trend when He came and offered up Himself as an extravagant act of devotion on our behalf. God loves loving us extravagantly and He is most glorified when we respond in abandoned devotion to Him.

There’s a God-sized need deeply seated within each of us to experience intimacy with God. Our highest calling and greatest opportunity in life is to respond to God’s beckoning to come to Him and experience His goodness. That choice here in this life will return high dividends in eternity. We would do well to imitate King David’s heart and priorities in this regard.

In this insightful book, John Tisdale shares principles that separate the practice of true faith from humanistic, religious imitations. He helps uncover how God's purposes are designed to help us turn to Him in faith in our times of need and lack. When we combine faith and brokenness, we position ourselves to experience life in God and bring Him the glory He created us to give Him.

Whether they realize it or not, what many Christians practice is more a form of humanism than it is true faith in Christ. Their faith in Jesus didn’t carry much beyond their initial point of salvation. What they practice on a day-to-day basis doesn’t involve much faith at all. They live as if they’ve been abandoned by their Lord and left to carry out His commands entirely on their own. As a result, their lives are typified by emptiness, guilt and boredom.

This is a powerful article that discusses a link between religious expression, hatred and violence. It touches on some of the most pressing contemporary issues facing our culture today. The author doesn't skirt the tough questions and complex issues with which many struggle. He goes head on to expose and explore why the practice of religious faith has historically resulted in so much hatred and bloodshed for thousands of years. The author illustrates how even Jesus' disciples were not immune to the tendency of allowing their personal ambitions and issues to get confused with their practice of faith in God and for that confusion to become distracting and destructive to their faith and purpose. It exposes common pitfalls practitioners of all faiths are susceptible to embracing. It provides an eye-opening perspective we would all do well to carefully consider.

The posture we assume affects the circumstances and opportunities of life. Here is what I’ve discovered so far about assuming a posture that enables me to experience the deepest measure of life in Jesus Christ.

  1. Assume that I don’t have all the answers
  2. Assume that I don’t see things clearly
  3. Assume that I don’t see myself clearly

It’s a good idea to periodically assess where you are at in your journey and evaluate whether you’re making the kind of decisions and progress needed to accomplish what’s most important. Amidst all the busyness and demands of life it becomes so easy to stop differentiating focus and purpose from distraction and busyness. I’m reminded of the football coach Vince Lombardi who upon realizing his team was missing the forest for the trees started a team meeting with, “Gentlemen, this is a football.” We all need to get back to the fundamentals regularly, lest we miss the point of it all.

In this article, you will learn how to do the spiritual limbo. Like the popular party game, it’s all about seeing how low can you go? Instead of winning party favors, the spiritual version is all about winning favor with God. What you will need is a desire to experience more of God in your life and a willingness to do whatever it takes to make that happen. The path isn’t for the faint-of-heart. But, if you’re willing to make the journey, the reward can be exceptional.

Let me begin with a personal story to set some context for this discussion. In the 90’s, my career was taking off. I was writing for several technology magazines. I was producing television shows on technology. I was working with executives of many of the largest technology firms in the world.

The more I study quantum physics, the more I realize how intricately the natural and supernatural are intertwined and how big a role faith plays in the outcome of everything that happens in this reality. What the Bible asserts, quantum physics explains. As it exposes the gears that drive our reality, it is becoming increasingly clear that science and faith aren't so far apart as we once imagined.

Any time we react to fear, we submit ourselves to its whims and we are certain to pay the price for it. Fear is never our friend but a thief cleverly disguised as wisdom set on robbing us blind. Whenever we agree with the inner voice of fear, we surrender to it part of our strength and resources. One thing is certain, when we align with fear, we are agreeing with our enemy and handing over to him what he does not deserve. Fear never protects us as it asserts. Rather, it robs us and makes us all the more its slave. Many people's lives can be defined as one reaction to fear after another--chained into a sequence that constitutes a shadow of a life. As a result, they make no forward momentum to become the person God created them to be. They just keep going around the same mountain over and over again. They are unable to break the bondage to fear and step out into their true identity and destiny. Freedom from fear begins with the awareness and recognition that it is nothing more than your enemy.

In those rare moments in which heaven is rolled back and I get a glimpse into eternity, my spirit awakens within me, I behold Him as He is, and I am overcome with desires far too magnificent for this world to comprehend. I see the meager portions of life and breath upon which I’ve fed far too long. A great chasm of longing awakens within me. I hear the voice of one who beckons me to be no more satisfied chasing the petty whims of men. With one so magnificent who calls me to Himself, how can I give another thought to any other? His voice lingers deep within my spirit. I know the direction of His calling. I must awake and pursue. Once again my heart is off in chase of Him. Whatever the cost, I am ruined for every lesser thing. He alone is my great desire. No lesser pursuit will do.

The person who has lost the ability to care about others is a person who has stopped making a difference in life. If you don't have compassion, your life will be lived with no lasting impact. It has been said that what matters most in life is what you do that will outlast it. If you are living with an apathetic lens on life, you will someday find that all of your values were misplaced. Deep life can only be found when you understand the enormous value of a person (yourself and others).

This prayer seeks peace in the midst of difficult times. The person who is struggling with challenging circumstances will find this prayer helpful in seeking a peace that transcends all difficulties. It is a cry for God to be real and show up in your circumstances and deliver you out of a situation in which you are in over your head. It is a confession that we need move than our own strength and provision to meet our needs.

This is a powerful prayer for receiving God's gift of salvation through a personal relationship with Jesus (God's Son). This prayer is for the person who wants to say yes to God's invitation for forgiveness of sin and eternal life. There is nothing magical about this prayer. It is more about the condition of your heart and attitude toward God than it is the words that are spoken.

This trip to Bosnia was short but very targeted and effective. We did so many more things than we shared in the blog. We had many conversations with leaders in Bosnia. We were able to encourage several people. There were a couple of people that were experiencing some real challenges in their lives. I can't share more but it seemed like we were in the right place at the right time to be friends to some people that really needed it. We all felt the effects of jetlag much more than usual. We all needed a couple of days of downtime to recover. We think we will return in October. We hope to stay longer this time though.

The trip back home wasn't without its challenges. We experienced flight delays, massive security lines, difficult travelers, seat assignment mix ups, being put on the back row with seats that didn't recline and our luggage got lost. But, they were just minor inconveniences. Overall, everything was fine. We didn't land in Houston until 1am. We made it to our host home around 2am. We slept from 3-10am and awoke feeling the effects of jetlag. We decided to go ahead and get up and head toward home. We got showers but since we didn't have any of our luggage, we couldn't change clothes, shave, brush our teeth and other niceties. We did some shopping while we were in Houston. We ended up going to several stores and found some good walking shoes on sale that will work better than the ones we wore to Bosnia on this trip. We made it home late on Sunday night. Our luggage didn't arrive until late morning on Tuesday. It was a good trip and we left feeling like we had made an impact in several lives.

Our last day in Bosnia and Herzegovina went well. We rested up some for the travels back home. We finished up some laundry and ran some errands. We got to spend some time with some of our old Bosnian friends and missionaries. We toured a waterfall that pours out from the base of a mountain at the opening of a cave. We had some coffee next to the waterfall with a missionary friend named Cory. Tom, Anita and I went to David and Sabrina Lively's home for dinner and more fellowship. Becky wasn't feeling entirely well and stayed back to rest up for the travels tomorrow. It was a wonderful time of chatting around their table. We prayed for them and their ministry here. We exchanged lots of hugs throughout the day with so many precious people.

We took a little break this morning from the busyness we’ve experienced all week. We got caught up on blogging and emailing and such. Then, we had an enjoyable lunch with some of the students and David Lively here at the school. Then, we did some laundry in the afternoon that stretched into every spare moment. Both the school’s washer and dryer take an incredibly long time. We had hoped to have time for an afternoon nap before getting ready for the evening prayer and worship service. But, it crept up on us too quickly along with the preparation work for the service, so we never managed to fit in a nap.

Anita awoke in the middle of the night and had one of those unusual experiences where she thought the Lord had awakened her like He had done with Samuel. She got her bible and writing tablet and sat in the women’s bathroom that is next to our room. For over an hour, scripture passages came to mind and she looked them up and wrote them down. She ended up tying together a wide assortment of passages that all gave insights into the process of restoration. Particularly, she felt this may be a message of hope to be proclaimed over the whole city of Mostar. And she wondered if it contained keys for how to pray while walking their land that had been defiled by bloodshed and other sins from Old Testament passages.

We had a great day today. Lots to report and lots of photos to post. But, I’m totally exhausted after being on from the moment we awoke to now (10pm). Going to bed. Hope to post more tomorrow.

I felt exhausted when I awoke this morning. We bought a box of Starbucks Via packets that allow us to make a decent cup of instant coffee. So, I had one of those first thing and followed that up with a 5-hour energy drink to get me into gear. Anita slept much better last night. So, she was up at working online in the Biblioteka (library) first thing in the morning.

Today went quickly. We went to the West Mostar Church in the morning where Anita trained the musicians and worship leaders in the church. Her training was skillful and impacting. After inquiring of the people that came about their level of knowledge and experience, she decided to move it up to the advanced level and cover some complex topics.

Just a quick update. I slept really well last night but Anita didn't (trading our usual roles). I awoke several times in the night to find her awake, including typing her thought on the laptop in the middle of the night. She studied her teaching notes right up until time for sleep and then she just couldn't manage to turn it off. I'd encourage anyone reading this to pray for her strength today. Thanks!

Sunday – March 14, 2010 After getting 12 hours of sleep, Anita and I both felt like human beings again. We were both rested and up before anyone else in our section of the buildings so we got ready, had a makeshift breakfast and made some coffee. I gargled some vinegar for my throat and […]

Where are you on your spiritual journey? Are you where you think you should be? Have setbacks and snags slowed your progress? Do you want to overcome your current constraints and break free into the next level of spiritual maturity? The vast majority of people are stuck in one of 3 stages. We don’t realize where or how we got stuck. Even more importantly, we have no idea how to get back on track toward experiencing more meaningful life. If that describes you, then you’ve come to the right place.

The church has been pegged as irrelevant by a growing percentage of western culture. I don't believe this is a commentary on the eroding moral fabric of society as much as it is a statement about the church that has grown increasingly dysfunctional and disconnected from the needs of people it is trying to serve and impact. What's more, this trend used to describe non-believers who seldom step foot in their local church. Yet, increasingly Christians are growing discontent with the experiences found within the church walls. As I relate with friends and colleagues I frequently hear strong, committed believers saying they aren't connected with a church and that they are getting their fellowship through house worship experiences and other unconventional means. As I keep my finger on the pulse of the church, I get a sense that something significant is happening.

In this series of installments, I want to explore the topic of why the church has become largely disconnected and irrelevant in western culture. We could point to many external causes for this disconnection such as the breakdown of family and moral values. Yet, I want to focus on the internal issues for which we […]

John Tisdale spent a decade in college and graduate school involved in two primary fields of study - theology and technology. The two fields seemed like an unusual pairing at the time. But, John has combined these fields in some unique ways over the past 25+ years.

John has been an avid writer on both subjects publishing his work in technology and faith-based magazines and professional journals for over two decades. His technical skills grew to include computer hardware and software, database development, Internet and Web, video production, television broadcasting, satellite communications, and audio production. John has worked extensively in Silicon Valley as a technology, communication and marketing consultant for over 15 years. He spent 7 years building a global satellite and internet-based television network for the computer industry that has been used by Microsoft, IBM, HP and numerous other technology leaders. He has produced many live and taped television shows, training programs, distance learning solutions, audio and worship CDs, training DVDs, ebooks and Web sites. John also has worked extensively in online marketing, SEO/SMO and interactive engagement architecture.

John has consulted for many of the largest faith-based organizations such as Billy Graham Evangelist Association, Campus Crusade for Christ, John McDowell Ministries and many others. He specializes in helping organizations understand the business opportunities for leverage advanced communication systems to engage and impact lives around the world. His focus over the past decade has been in online engagement architecture, user experience design, information architecture and SEO/SEM/SMO.

In 1994, John was working for a technology company producing television shows in Silicon Valley. He was given the task of producing a series of pay-per-view television programs on the Internet and the emerging World Wide Web. He begin researching the Internet. At the time, the tools for using the Internet included Joghead, Archie, Veronica, Finger, WhoIs and email. John began using them extensively and exploring opportunities with these or other emerging tools. The Web was just emerging and gaining interest in the Valley. John brought together many of the industry leaders from Silicon Valley who were leading the march with the Internet and Web to appear on the series of live interactive television broadcasts.

Following the television series, John began using the Internet and Web for personal evangelism and ministry. He found incredible success. He found himself praying with people interactively using early chat tools in numerous countries. He began training others how to use these tools for personal ministry. He got his friend Steve Hewitt, the editor of Christian Computing Magazine, connected to the Internet and trained how to minister to people with them. John appeared on Steve' syndicated call-in radio program Christian Computing Live on several occasions to discuss how to use the Internet to impact lives. John wrote a series of articles on the topic Christian Computing Magazine. He was invited by the Billy Graham Evangelical Association to train ministry leaders in the concepts at one of the first Internet Evangelism conferences.

John developed his first evangelistic web site in 1994 at www.WhyChrist.com (not in service any longer). He provided training, content and other free resources on this site. In 1995, John began developing a bigger vision for using the Internet to build a global network to connect ministries to help them reach and positively impact more lives. He called this vision the Online Christian Evangelical Alliance Network or OCEAN. He wrote a 300-page strategic white paper on the concept to using the Internet to provide a collaborative ministry network throughout 1995. In July 1995, a local Christian newspaper published an article on John’s internet evangelism work. John took all the resources and content he had developed for WhyChrist.com and transferred them over to ocean.org.

The next several years John developed a grass-roots effort to educate ministry leaders on the emerging opportunities afforded by the Internet. In 1998, John connected with a group of similar minded people in Silicon Valley who were working toward a very similar vision. John ended up combining his efforts with theirs under the umbrella of The Christian Internet Initiative. They worked together for a couple of years with many of the leading ministries. They ended up providing technology consulting services to many of the largest ministries in the U.S.

As this effort ran its course, another group was emerging to take the vision to the next level. A group from Christian Broadcast Network (CBN) in Virginia combined with venture capitalists in Silicon Valley to start Christianity.com. John eventually went to work for them and brought a team of software developers he had been training in the Midwest into the mix. The dotcom crash happened during this effort and seriously undermined the initiative. After the company consumed 3 rounds of venture capital it closed its door in 2000.

John then took his group of software developers and formed Tandem Partners. They provided custom Web application development services to many ministries such as Campus Crusade for Christ International and many others. John continued this work for the next decade. Most of the past decade, John has worked as a consultant helping organizations leverage the capabilties of the Internet. He has worked on producing and developing a wide assortment of resources to help seekers, skeptics and believers alike grow spiritually and find deeper fulfillment in their personal relationship with God.

John’s passion is to experience the deepest measures of life possible through his personal relationship with Jesus Christ. He wants to see others experience emotional and spiritual healing, freedom and abundant life. John resides in the Houston area with his wife Anita (a singer, songwriter and worship leader). They are also involved in international mission work, particularly in the Baltic region (helping bring hope as well as spiritual and emotional healing to war-torn regions such as Bosnia). You will find John's personal website at www.JohnTisdale.com.
