Many people fear death. It is a one-way door. The destination of which is uncertain. That uncertainty breathes great fear into people. The possibility of us ceasing to exist is unnerving - as are many other possibilities that could lie on the other side of death's door. But, it doesn't need to be so. Death is an essential part of life. As we shall see, without it, this life is as good as it could ever get. As we have seen in the previous questions, in order for God to allow us to be united with him in intimate embrace, he had to separate us from Himself. He placed us in this universe so that we could be given a taste of who he is. Here, we can set our own rules and priorities. By making our own choices, we can come to appreciate why God makes the choices He does. Yet, this brings up an important issue. If they are separated from God, how can we ever be united with him? It seems that when God created this reality, one of the characteristics he had to give us was temporariness. Otherwise, our separation from him would be permanent (which would nullify our reason for existence). So, he made this reality out material that would decay. We had to be created out of the same material that makes up this temporary reality. Just as birth is our introduction into this environment, so death is our promotion from it. God loves us far too much to leave us in this place. Although we think of death as something painful, any pain will be immediately forgotten once we take our first fascinating step onto the other side.
