Isn’t it interesting how children dream such big dreams? Every child dreams of slaying dragons, hitting the game-winning homerun, rescuing the oppressed and exacting justice on the villain. It’s as if dreams were woven into our nature - like we were made to be dreamers. Yet with time, we all seem to tone down those dreams into something more tame. Each of us traded being the hero for owning our own business. We decided that conquering evil wasn’t within our reach and so we decided to simply make some type of impact in our professional lives. With time, the idea of owning your own business proved to be too challenging and so you settled for taking a job at a decent company. Making a difference with our career needed to be refined into simply being dependable and showing up at the job each day. The whole marriage thing turned out to be far less glorious than you had anticipated. The second mortgage eliminated the ability to dream beyond the capabilities of your stretched budget. So, you’ve continued trading your dreams for other, more realistic and less noble, goals. Yet, as your dreams have gone, so too has your passion for life. Sure, you have a pulse, but do you remember what it is like to breathe deeply? Has your heart grown so numb that you cannot feel any longer?
